HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) announced on July 6 that its construction division has been selected as the preferred bidder for the BEXCO Exhibition Center 3 Project commissioned by the Busan Metropolitan City Construction Division.

The tender was conducted under a weighted evaluation system, with technical proposals accounting for 60% of the total score and price accounting for the remaining 40%, making the technical evaluation the decisive factor in the competition. HJSC's consortium, acting as the lead contractor, took an early lead over its competitors in the technical evaluation and ultimately ranked first overall after the price scores were added, securing the contract. The project is valued at KRW 257.2 billion (including VAT), with a construction period of 50 months from the commencement date.

The BEXCO Exhibition Center 3 Project is a large-scale development that will add a new exhibition hall with a total floor area of 58,810 square meters, consisting of one basement level and four above-ground floors, on the parking lot site in front of BEXCO Exhibition Center 1 in Haeundae-gu, Busan. As one of the few major public construction projects launched amid the recent slowdown in the construction market, it attracted strong interest from leading large and mid-sized construction companies across the country.

Earlier this year, HJSC secured several major public infrastructure projects, including the Seobusan Administrative Complex Town Project (KRW 63.7 billion) and the Jecheon–Yeongwol Expressway Construction Project (Section 3, KRW 163.7 billion). By winning the BEXCO Exhibition Center 3 Project, the multinational constructor has further strengthened its leading position in both the large-scale public construction and technology-based tender markets.

BEXCO has been operating at an exhibition utilization rate exceeding 60%, which is generally regarded as the threshold for full capacity, making additional exhibition space an urgent need. Once completed, Exhibition Center 3 is expected to significantly enhance Busan's competitiveness in attracting global exhibitions and conventions. As the successful bidder, the HJSC consortium will begin construction on the priority work package while completing the detailed design for the remaining portions of the project. Following coordination with the Busan Metropolitan City Construction Division, full-scale construction is expected to begin later this year.

An HJSC official stated, “Based on the world-class construction expertise and know-how we have built over the years, we will safely deliver a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly exhibition center that will become a landmark for Busan.”
