HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) hosted a community outreach event on June 12 at its Yeongdo Shipyard, distributing essential gift packages worth KRW 40 million to 1,000 households in Yeongdo-gu, including low-income families and those in welfare blind spots.
The initiative was made possible through voluntary donations from HJSC employees. Participants gathered to prepare and pack 1,000 sets of daily necessities, which were later delivered to those in need.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including National Assembly member Cho Seung-hwan (Yeongdo-gu), Busan Metropolitan Council Chairperson Ahn Sung-min, Yeongdo-gu Mayor Kim Ki-jae, Democratic Party Regional Chair Park Young-mi (Jung-gu and Yeongdo-gu), Yeongdo District Council Chair Choi Chan-hoon, and Busan Community Chest of Korea President Lee Soo-tae. Approximately 200 HJSC employees, including CEO Yoo Sang-cheol and union leader Kim Ha-dong, also participated, reinforcing the company’s commitment to community care.
The gift packages, assembled by participants, were filled with essential daily items such as rice, doenjang (soybean paste), soy sauce, cooking oil, ramen, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, detergent, and rubber gloves. The 1,000 packages were delivered to low-income households in welfare blind spots, including elderly residents living alone and child-headed families, through the coordination of Yeongdo-gu Office and seven local welfare centers.
HJSC CEO Yoo Sang-cheol stated, “Our employees came together to carefully prepare these gift packages using funds they voluntarily donated, with the hope of sharing warmth with our neighbors in need.” He added, “We will continue to strive to care for the underprivileged and grow alongside the local community.”

In line with its philosophy of people-centered management through sharing, HJSC actively engages in a wide range of social contribution initiatives. These include the ‘One Donation Account per Employee’ campaign, support for constructing welfare centers for people with disabilities, scholarship programs, volunteer activities, talent donations, and cultural sponsorships.
For over three decades, HJSC employees have dedicated themselves to community outreach through efforts such as coal briquette deliveries, free meal services, kimchi-sharing events, winter blanket donations, and seasonal gift packages. In recognition of these sustained efforts, HJSC was honored last year as “The Best Workplace” by the Community Chest of Korea.
An HJSC official commented, “As a responsible corporate citizen, we will continue to expand our outreach initiatives and strive to be a model company that supports vulnerable communities and promotes social inclusion.” |
