On March 8, TMS, a professional shipbuilding & marine engineering firm which has spun off from Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction (HHIC), announced that it designed a developed energy-saving, environment-friendly container carrier (3,800TEU) which will be built at HHIC Subic Shipyard (HHIC-Phil).

The new container ship which is designed with a concept of ‘Super Slow Steaming’ would be as large as the conventional 3,600TEU container ship. In terms of resistance performance, however, it is superior by 3% in design draft.

Considering the fact that a ship general cruises at 70-80 percent of the engine's torque, the ship has improved effective horse power up to 7% compared to conventional ships by satisfying guaranteed speed and enhancing resistance performance at low speed. It appears the new ship would greatly reduce fuel consumption by making it possible to increase speed with less engine’s torque.

On February, 23, the ship design firm acquired 'External Specialist' qualification related to MLC-ACCOM authentication from American Bureau Shipping (ABS) for the first time worldwide. The 'External Specialist' qualification authorizes the company to check the standards of crew welfare such as vibration, noise, indoor environments and illumination.

The MLC-ACCOM authorized by ABS is a kind of classification notation for improvement of the welfare of crew and passengers and the value of ships and requires more strict regulations and certification process than ILO's. 

TMS has also obtained the certification on eight class notations and successfully inspected 'ALLEGRA' which has been built by DaeSun Shipbuilding & Engineering.

This ship design-specialized firm is operated under the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to maximize productivity.
