Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction (HHIC) wins a bid to build Al Duqm Airport in Oman

On December 8, 2010, HHIC finally won a bid to construct the Package No.2 of Al Duqm Airport in Oman.


This project which is targeted to construct a new airport in Duqm, about 500km distance away from the capital city (Muscat) was launched by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in Oman. The Package No.2 includes a runway and taxi way.


HHIC has won this contract over the world’s leading construction companies from around the world such as India, Greece and Australia. This project is as large as KRW 130 billion with 22-month construction period.


HHIC is almost unparalleled in Korea in airport construction. Based on advanced technology and great know-how, it participated in the construction of Incheon International Airport as an organizer and involved in the construction of most domestic airport facilities in Gimpo, Gimhae, Daegu, Yangyang, Ulsan and Jeju.


In addition, HHIC’s excellence has been proven in many overseas projects such as Riyadh King Khaled International Airport in Saudi Arabia and Davao International Airport in the Philippines. At present, the construction of Laguindingan International Airport in the Philippines is in progress as planned.


An official from HHIC said, “The Al Duqm Airport project is very meaningful for us because it is our second time to penetrate into the Middle East market in 13 years since we evacuated from Saudi Arabia in 1997.” He continued, “We are going to further strengthen our reputation as Korea’s largest airport construction company and actively participate in various construction projects throughout the world as well as in the Middle East.”
