HHIC-Phil wins another bid to build 8 carriers (US 500 million dollars)

-A bid to build 8 very large bulk carriers (200,000 DWT) after the successful bid (8 carriers) in April
-Wins the bids to construct 19 very large carriers in total so far this year – Excellence of HHIC-Phil’s Subic Shipyard



On May 10, HHIC-Phil announced that it signed a contract for a total of US $500 million to construct 8 bulk carriers (205,000 DWT) with a European shipping company.


The company already won the bids to construct two very large bulk carriers in January, one in February and eight in April. So far, it has won the bids to build 19 carriers in total this year.


The state-of-the-art VLOC carriers (205,000 DWT, 300m in length, 50m in width, 25m in height, 15 knots of speed) will be delivered by 2013, starting from the second half of 2012.


Based on spacious site (2.6M㎡, 10 times bigger than Yeongdo Dockyard), competitive labor and stable production systems, HHIC-Phil’s Subic Shipyard is now capable of building offshore plants as well as very large carriers which are too large for the conventional Yeongdo Dockyard to handle. After all, HHIC has emerged as a new leader in the world shipbuilding market.


In particular, a high level of technology is required to build the very large carriers. Through which the world started to recognize Subic Shipyard’s advanced technology and production capabilities. The company displays a strong presence in the world.


“We are going to develop the highly-efficient Subic Shipyard into the world’s leading shipbuilding site and Yeongdo Dockyard into a strategic shipbuilding base for high-technology carriers and offshore supply vessels through facility modernization,” An official from HHIC said with full of confidence in maintaining a dominant position in the world market.


Meanwhile, HHIC-Phil’s Subic Shipyard has been fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including 370m-long Dock 5, the world’s largest Dock 6 (550m in length, 135m in width), 4km-long quaying facility, four ultra-large cranes and over 1,000m-long automated assembly lines. The company is already fully scheduled for the next 3 years.
