Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) has developed a new launching method ‘Barge to Floating Dock Launching’ under which a vessel erected on land is launched using a barge and floating dock.

The company announced that it successfully launched two Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) in March and  August using this new method.

This new method has been developed to reduce launching cost and improve productivity compared to the conventional Lifting Off Launching (LOL) method using two floating cranes.

Under this new innovative method, a vessel erected on land is loaded onto the barge by the module trailer and moved to the adjacent floating dock.

The company explained that this new launching method with on land erection was developed in order to improve productivity for vessels which require relatively longer dock erection period compared to common ships.

The DSV (115.4m-long, 22m-wide, 9m-high) launching weight was about 5,700 tons. After four months of quay outfitting work, this mid-size vessel will be delivered at the end of December.
