- Artistic and unique deconstructivist design with the
   advanced technology
- The world’s largest Big Roof using the lift-up engineering
method / proven as a construction leader

Hanjin Heavy Industries announced that it held an opening ceremony of ‘the BUSAN CINEMA CENTER’ on September 29.

The BUSAN CINEMA CENTER situated in the Centum City Industrial Park is a 9-story building with basement (32,137㎡ in site area, 22,140㎡ in building area). The construction was launched in October 2008 with the construction amount
of KRW 167.85 billion.

The BUSAN CINEMA CENTER consists of CINE Mountain which symbolizes a lofty mountain and hills with the open
land and sky, BIFF Hill, BIFF Square and outdoor theater.

The mortarboard-shaped two huge roofs, Big Roof and Small Roof, are projected. Under these roofs, a huge LED light board made of about 120,000 light bulbs will create fantastic visual effects.

In addition, double cone which supports the Big Roof presents the uniqueness of architecture and aesthetic beauty of
space. Double cone is a huge double-headed drum-shaped column.

Hanjin Heavy Industries has restored the extravagant and magnificent deconstructivist architecture designed by Coop Himmelblau in Austria.

In particular, Hanjin Heavy Industries successfully completed the installation of the Big Roof, which was the hardest
part of the project, using the LIFT-UP engineering method. The Big Roof is as magnificent as 163m in length, 26m in
width and 4,000t in weight. It is under review by Guinness World Records.

The LIFT-UP is an engineering method to lift up a structure which has been assembled on the ground through a crane or hydraulic jack. Because it is done on the ground, a precision installation is possible with high safety and efficiency.
However, it requires very complicated and highly advanced technology.

After assembling the world’s longest (85m-long) cantilever roof truss which is the front of the roof on the ground, it was carefully lifted using a hydraulic jack.

In fact, Hanjin Heavy Industries already showcased this engineering method at the Big Roof Framework Ceremony
organized by the City of Busan in March.

An official from Hanjin Heavy Industries said, “The BUSAN CINEMA CENTER is very meaningful architecture in the
history of Korean architecture. It has unique and artistic values with the world’s largest roof.” He added, “With the
opening of the BUSAN CINEMA CENTER, HANJIN Heavy Industries has once again proven its leading position in
Korea.”
