- HHIC-Phil-donated school opens on July 2

Recently, HHIC-Phil’s Subic Shipyard has grown sharply, entered the world's top 10 for the first time. It has also harvested some significant results in corporate social responsibility.

On July 2, the Department of Education of the Philippines announced that HANJIN Integrated School in Castillejos, which was constructed by HHIC-Phil’s Subic Shipyard last year finally opened.

The opening ceremony was held with the attendance of about 500 people including Mayor Angelo Dominguez (Mayor of Castillejos), Zenia G. Mostoles (governor of Office of Education in Zambales), Ahn Jin-gyu (President of Subic Shipyard), local celebrities, parents and school faculty.

HHIC-Phil’s Subic Shipyard launched the construction of a school in Castillejos which is about 20km away to the north from the shipyard in February last year, and the construction was completed five months later. The ceremony of school donation was held at the end of the year. Since then, the Department of Education of the Philippines has installed various educational facilities, recruited school faculty and handled administrative works.

The school (site area: 3,318
, building area: 1,110) consists four (4) buildings and eight (8) classrooms, featuring library, science lab and faculty office. It can accommodate up to 500 students. This school will cover from kindergarten to elementary and middle school curriculums. Later, it will handle up to high-school courses.

HHIC-Phil’s Subic Shipyard also provided school equipment and materials such as chairs & desks and cabinets for school faculty and students. At the opening ceremony it further donated school supplies, electric fans and curtains.

At the ceremony, Ahn Jin-gyu, President of Subic Shipyard, delivered “I’m so pleased to provide this opportunity for systematic education to young students through this school.” He added, “We are going to keep finding a way to go with a local community as Subic Shipyard grows.”

HHIC-Phil’s Subic Shipyard has promoted a variety of corporate social responsibility activities such as school donation, construction of 1,000 housing units for local employees, medical volunteer services and health and quarantine services. It also plans to build and donate various public facilities including bus terminal, multipurpose hall, park and basketball court.
