HANJIN Heavy Industries & Construction (HHIC) named Lee Byung-mo as a new chief executive at the 12th shareholders’ meeting which was held on March 29.

At the meeting held at its company building in Galwol-dong, the shipbuilder unveiled its management goal 2019 (‘Business Recovery and Brand-new Start’) and specific management policies (‘strengthen the fundamentals, profit-oriented business management, secure the grounds for future growth, etc.’).

The new CEO earned a bachelor’s degree in naval architecture in Seoul National University and entered Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in 1982. Since then, he’s been in shipbuilding business for nearly 4 decades.

He’s built up great careers, assuming key posts in design, sales, production and business administration. He was the CEO of DAEHAN Shipbuilding in 2011 and became the CEO of STX Offshore & Shipbuilding in 2015, playing a key role in helping domestic mid-sized shipbuilders rebound.

Since 2017, he has served as an industrial fellowship professor from Dept. of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, INHA University. After all, he is one of the nation’s most competent shipbuilding engineers with a complete understanding of both theory and practice.

Thanks to his extensive experiences and great capability to handle various sectors including administration, production and technology, it has been appointed as the CEO of HHIC.

He said, “I have built up extensive knowhow in mid-size and large shipyards. Based on such experiences, I’m going to help HHIC get back on track fast and strengthen the grounds for a great leap towards the future”.
