HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC, former HHIC) successfully won a bid for ‘Roadbed Construction #2 of KORAIL Janghang Line Reform Stage II’.

The goal of this project launched by KOREA NATIONAL RAILWAY is to construct 8,556m-long double-track railroad (earth work: 6,019m, bridge: 2,537m) from Heongseong-eup, Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do to Jupo-myeon, Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do. The contract amount is KRW 127.3 billion, and HJSC organizes the project with 70% ownership. The length of the construction is 68 months.

As a part of the 2nd National Railroad Development Plan, this project was launched to promote balanced regional development through the construction of Seohae High-speed Railway Network. It is anticipated that it would facilitate regional development by securing cargo transport on Honam Line and Jeolla Line and developing branch lines such as the Port of Gwangyang and Saemangeum.

HJSC, long reputed as a public construction leader, explained that it was able to win the bid thanks to its extensive knowhow and experiences in railroad constructions. Specifically, the multinational company participated in many railroad constructions such as Wonju-Gangneung High-speed Railway, Seongnam-Yeoju Double-track Railway and Ulsan-Pohang Double-track Railway as well as Gyeongbu High-speed Railway. The South Korean shipbuilder is currently engaging in Chuncheon-Sokcho Railway Roadbed Construction and Samsung-Dongtan GTX-A Development. As an industry leader, HJSC ranked 5th in the total public construction contract amount last year.

An official from HJSC said, “We have been accelerating our marketing efforts ever since the company was renamed this year.” He continued, “We are committed to enhancing business achievements by winning more contracts based on our strength in public construction.”

After 32 years, the company was renamed from HHIC to HJSC in January this year and announced “the first year of takeoff” and its new corporate identity.
