HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) announced that it would definitely accomplish management normalization this year as the first year of takeoff at its corporate identity declaration ceremony and new-year opening ceremony. It was the first official move as HJSC since the global shipbuilder finalized its new name and corporate identity in December last year.

On January 3, the multinational shipbuilding company held a corporate identity declaration ceremony and a new-year opening ceremony at its office building in Namyeong-dong, Seoul with the attendance of the management (e.g., CEO Hong Moon-ki, vice presidents Yoo Sang-chul and Sung Kyung-chul, etc.), labor union, employee representative and winner of the new corporate name contest. Due to enhanced social spacing, this event was held on a minimum scale in the following order: Corporate Identity Declaration Ceremony, Company Flag Performance, Badge Presentation Ceremony, New Company Name Contest Award and New Year Celebration.

Since the second half of last year, the South Korean shipbuilder has wanted to change its name to take a stride toward a general heavy industry company and build a global brand image in the ESG era. In December 22 last year, the company finalized its new name ‘HJ Shipbuilding & Construction’ at an extraordinary general shareholders’ meeting.

The new emblem was designed with the four black trigrams (collectively called ‘geongongamri’) of the Taegeukgi (national flag) as motives, materializing yin-yang harmony and co-prosperity. It implies the company’s commitment to grow into the nation’s heavy industry company by converging all values with clients and creating a new future vision with endless challenging spirit.

In terms of corporate identity colors, ‘green’ symbolizing the future of HJSC and ‘dark green’ representing the succession of tradition were used to express growth and prosperity. Specifically, ‘green’ symbolizes youth, growth, continuous innovation and evolution while ‘dark green’ represents the pride of the company’s achievement in the history of modern Korean heavy industry with creativity and passion.

Furthermore, the oblique ascending trigrams imply the company’s determination to grow into the nation’s heavy industry leader through endless challenges and pioneering spirit.

After taking the first step as HJSC, CEO Hong Moon-ki declared, “Let this highest journey toward a centennial company begin” at its commemorative address. He continued, “We are going to leap into the nation’s heavy industry leader with endless challenges and pioneering spirit by opening up new future and creating new values through tradition-future, client-company and employee-management harmony and cooperation”.
