- A KRW 218.8 billion contract to build nine (9) ships including two 1,000-ton ships
- Proves its distinctive competence in a shipbuilding sector

On the 22nd day, HHIC announced that the company signed an agreement to build coast guard ships with Public Procurement Service.

The company will construct two (2) 1,000-ton ships, four (4) 500-ton ships and three (3) 300-ton ships, which will be used to protect maritime sovereignty through maritime security and rescue activities. They will be delivered to National Maritime Policy Agency in order by April 2012.

The body of the ships will be made of high-tensile steel-aluminum alloys, and the latest water-jet diesel engine that is capable of 30-35knots at maximum will be installed in each vessel. In other words, the state-of-the-art ships equipped with rescue boats will be manufactured.

With the said ships, Korea Coast Guard will 1) guard Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), 2) carry out coast guard and rescue duties, 3) project fishermen and domestic fisheries resources and 4) keep Chinese fishing vessels from illegally operating in Korea's EEZ.

The company has already successfully built seven coast guard ships (4: 300-ton ships, 3: 500-ton ships) that were signed in 2006 and prepared to ship them out. With the successful bid for this project in a row, HHIC has proven its distinctive competence in building coast guard ships.

HHIC has manufactured advanced naval vessels and coast guard ships since the manufacture of Korea’s first coast guard ship, ‘Haksaengho,’ in 1972. Empowered by outstanding production and export of naval ships, the company has maintained its leading position in naval vessels and special ships.
