- Foreign government officials visit HJSC Yeongdo Shipyard to see air cushion vehicles (ACVs) - Known as one of the world’s best shipyards in building air-cushioned landing ship fast (LSF)
- HJSC’s air-cushioned LSF-II developed for the ROK Navy
Foreign government officials visited HJSC’s Yeongdo Shipyard to see air-cushioned vehicles (AVCs), increasing a possibility of the South Korean shipbuilder’s expansion to global markets.
As a part of market research for their AVC project, they recently visited HJSC’s Yeongdo Shipyard and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) together with Korean government officials.
The multinational shipbuilding company launched the development of ACVs in 1977. It successfully developed ACVs with its own technology for the first time in Asia. The global shipbuilder has developed and handed over LSFs and their upgraded version ‘LSF-II’ to the ROK Navy.
At the end of last year, HJSC signed KRW 650 billion contracts for the ROK Navy Dokdo Improvement Project, 4 patrol boats, combined joint logistics over the shore (CJLOTS) and the 3,000 ton-class Navy patrol boat, proving again its excellence in warship design & building, performance improvements and logistics support facilities. - Patrol-boat Killer Medium Rocket (PKMR)
So far, the company has successfully built a total of 28 fast patrol vessels which are worth KRW 1.5 trillion for the ROK Navy. It is anticipated that it would win additional contracts in the LSF project. There is a possibility that this visit would ignite HJSC’s penetration into global markets just as it first exported its fast patrol boat to Indonesia in 1979.
An official from HJSC said, “We are the nation’s only builder with the technology to build ROK NAVY Solgae-class LSF. In fact, we own unparalleled technology in air-cushion vehicles.” He continued, “Based on our advanced technologies and extensive knowhow, we are going to promote sales aggressively to win more contracts at home and away.” |
