HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) announced on August 20 that its construction division has signed a contract for Section 4 of the National Route 46 Namyangju–Chuncheon (Second Gyeongchun National Road) Construction Project, commissioned by the Wonju Regional Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Section 4 connects Hasaek-ri (Gapyeong-eup, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do) with Seocheon-ri (Namsan-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do). The project involves constructing a 5.16-kilometer road with a width of 19.5 meters, including six bridges with a combined length of 2,697 meters and a new 289-meter tunnel. The contract is valued at KRW 174 billion, with a construction period of 84 months from the commencement date.

The tender was conducted under the comprehensive evaluation bidding system, which determines the successful bidder based on a comprehensive assessment of construction performance capabilities, including construction experience, technical expertise, and financial standing, along with price evaluation. Amid intense competition among major construction companies, HJSC formed a consortium as the lead contractor with a 60% stake and secured the contract.

HJSC received a strong evaluation based on its extensive expertise in road, bridge, and tunnel construction accumulated through projects across the country, as well as its advanced construction methods designed to minimize environmental impact. The multinational constructor once again demonstrated its outstanding technical expertise and price competitiveness in challenging public civil engineering projects, showcasing its capabilities as a leading construction company with a long track record.

The latest contract is particularly notable as it follows HJSC’s recent wins for the Jecheon–Yeongwol Expressway Construction Project (Section 3) and the BEXCO Exhibition Hall 3 Project. By securing major national infrastructure projects in civil engineering alongside large-scale landmark projects in building construction, the global constructor has further demonstrated its strong position in the public construction market and the competitiveness of its balanced portfolio spanning civil engineering and building construction.

An HJSC official stated, “We plan to put our road construction expertise to full use on the Second Gyeongchun National Road Project.” He added, “We will do our utmost to achieve zero accidents through thorough on-site safety management and to build safe and reliable infrastructure.”
