HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) announced on June 18 that its construction division has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Jecheon–Yeongwol Expressway Construction Project (Section 3) commissioned by the Korea Expressway Corporation.
Section 3 of the project covers a 6.4-kilometer stretch connecting Jajak-dong (Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do) and Daejeon-ri (Eosangcheon-myeon, Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do). The large-scale civil engineering project includes the construction of a new four-lane expressway with a width of 23.4 meters, as well as five bridges, one tunnel, and drainage facilities. The contract is valued at KRW 212.6 billion (excluding VAT), and the construction period is 84 months from the commencement date.
The tender was conducted under the comprehensive evaluation bidding system and attracted 25 major domestic construction companies, resulting in intense competition. HJSC participated as the lead contractor with a 70% stake and formed a consortium with SHINSUNG CONSTRUCTION CORP. (10%), WOOIL Construction (10%), and CHEONGIN Construction (10%), ultimately securing the contract.
The achievement was built on HJSC’s extensive construction experience and technical expertise in highway infrastructure projects. Over the years, the multinational constructor has accumulated substantial know-how through its participation in major national transportation networks, including the Donghae (East Coast) Expressway, the Donghongcheon–Yangyang Expressway, the Samcheok–Donghae Expressway, and the Yeoju–Yangpyeong Expressway.
In particular, HJSC has continued to strengthen its position as a leading player in the public civil engineering market. Most recently, the global construction company emerged as a strong contender for the final award of Section 4 of the Second Gyeongchun (Namyangju–Chuncheon) National Road Project, another large-scale government infrastructure project connecting Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do.
An HJSC official stated, “This contract is particularly meaningful as it reflects recognition of our outstanding construction capabilities and unmatched competitiveness in the public infrastructure sector amid intense competition from major construction companies.” He added, “Through close cooperation with our partners, we will prioritize safety and rigorous quality control to deliver a landmark expressway that will serve as a key piece of regional infrastructure.” |
