- New CEO Song Kyung-han
On March 27, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) held an annual general meeting at its Namyeong office in Seoul and appointed Song Kyung-han as CEO of the construction division, marking a shift toward more disciplined, efficiency-driven management following the company’s recent earnings recovery.
The newly appointed CEO graduated from Kyung Hee University with a bachelor’s degree in English literature and began his career at DONGBU Corporation in 1995, building extensive experience across key construction management functions, including human resources, outsourcing, and procurement. The recognized strategy expert served as CEO of DONGBU Engineering in 2024, demonstrating strong leadership in organizational management and profitability improvement.
Industry observers see him as the right leader to further enhance operational efficiency in HJSC’s construction division, which has recently turned around, and to strengthen the foundation for sustainable growth.
HJSC’s construction division maintained stable annual sales of around KRW 1 trillion last year, reflecting solid fundamentals. In particular, company-wide cost reduction efforts and a selective order strategy helped improve profitability, with operating profit reaching KRW 11.3 billion. The division also secured a stable order backlog of approximately KRW 8 trillion, supported by large-scale infrastructure and maintenance projects.
Upon his appointment, Mr. Song stated, “I am honored to take on this important role at HJSC, a company with a long-standing reputation in the construction industry.” He added, “We will build a sustainable company that remains resilient in any market conditions by establishing a strong safety culture and pursuing disciplined, profit-focused management.”
Meanwhile, at the general meeting, six agenda items were approved, including the approval of the 19th financial statements and consolidated financial statements, amendments to the articles of incorporation, the appointment of directors and outside directors, the appointment of audit committee members, and approval of the director compensation limit.
HJSC reported revenue of KRW 1.9997 trillion, operating profit of KRW 67 billion, and net profit of KRW 51.4 billion last year. For 2026, the multinational company has set business targets of KRW 4.15 trillion in new orders and KRW 2.65 trillion in revenue. The construction division will focus on “sustainable growth management based on safety,” while the shipbuilding division will prioritize “sustainable profitability and operational discipline,” as part of its overall strategy. |
