- Secures another major infrastructure contract following the Cebu New Port project
- Reaffirms its position as a leading contractor in the Philippine construction market with over 80 completed projects

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) announced on November 26 that it has been selected as the contractor for the Tagum Flood Control Project commissioned by the Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Valued at over KRW 100 billion, this large-scale civil infrastructure project further reinforces the company’s strong foothold in the local construction market.

The project aims to prevent recurring flood damage in the Tagum area of Davao del Norte, located on Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines. It encompasses the construction of levees and bridges, river dredging, expansion, and rehabilitation works. The contract value is KRW 103.2 billion, and the project is scheduled to be carried out over a 48-month construction period from commencement.

Amid a sharp rise in climate-related natural disasters, the Philippine government has been actively promoting flood-resilience and climate-adaptation projects in cooperation with international organizations such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB). HJSC also previously secured and successfully completed a similar initiative, the Pampanga Flood Control Works, in April last year.

HJSC’s extensive construction experience and technical expertise in the Philippines played a decisive role in winning the contract. Since becoming the first Korean company to enter the Philippine construction market in 1973, the multinational constructor has built roads, ports, dams, airports, and shipyards, completing more than 80 projects, the largest number among Korean firms operating in the country. This proven track record has earned HJSC strong trust from local authorities and project owners.

The global construction company is also recognized for elevating the reputation of Korean construction companies by successfully delivering major national projects such as the Manila Light Rail Transit System and Davao International Airport. In November last year, the company strengthened its presence once again by winning the KRW 280 billion Cebu New Port construction project.

An HJSC official stated, “We will ensure the successful completion of the Tagum Flood Control Project to enhance local safety and support regional development, while further strengthening our competitiveness in the global infrastructure market.”
