- Part of ongoing efforts to foster mutual growth through safety and health support programs
On July 24, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) announced that its Construction Division held a ‘Safety and Health Meeting for Partner CEOs’ at its Namyeong office in Seoul, inviting 30 CEOs from top-performing partner companies.
The meeting was organized to prevent safety incidents caused by extreme summer heat and to share strategies for mutual cooperation in safety and health. The agenda included an awards ceremony for outstanding partners, safety and health policy briefings, and presentations on HJSC’s support programs and best practices.
Awards and cash prizes were given to one top-performing company and two excellent partners based on the results of safety and health evaluations. The event also featured a special session led by Kim Joo-taek, Director of the Bucheon Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, who provided an overview of the government’s safety and health policy direction for the second half of the year. HJSC also shared its current safety and health initiatives, with a particular focus on measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.
As part of its summer campaign, themed “No to Heat Illness! Yes to Water, Shade, and Rest!”, the multinational constructor has installed “Rest Reminder Signal Lights” at its construction sites. These lights shift between yellow (caution), orange (warning), and red (danger) based on real-time perceived temperatures, enabling workers to quickly recognize and follow appropriate safety measures. In addition, mandatory breaks of 10 to 20 minutes are enforced each hour, and outdoor work is reduced or suspended depending on workers’ health conditions.
HJSC has also signed an MOU with LOTTE CHILSUNG to further support heat illness prevention. Under this partnership, bottled water and other supplies are distributed to all construction sites, and joint awareness campaigns are conducted to help workers stay safe during the heat wave.
HJSC Construction CEO Kim Wan-seok, who attended the meeting, emphasized, “Strengthening safety and health capabilities together with our partners is essential to ensuring safety across all construction sites.” He added, “Please make every effort to thoroughly implement our heat wave countermeasures so that not a single workplace accident occurs.” |
