HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) has earned the highest rating in the 2024 shipbuilding safety and health evaluation for primary and subcontractors, conducted by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) under the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

The multinational shipbuilder announced it achieved an “Excellent” grade following the evaluation of 22 shipbuilding sites nationwide, with only two companies, including HJSC, achieving the top-tier rating.

Launched in 2011, the Ministry’s evaluation system promotes accident prevention and strengthens safety culture by assessing how effectively shipbuilders support and manage subcontractor safety and health practices.

KOSHA assessed each site's safety and health management systems, operational performance, risk assessment processes, safety training, site implementation, subcontracting practices, contracting systems, and investment in safety and health. Results were scored on a 100-point scale and classified into four categories: Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor.

In 2022, HJSC also received an Excellent rating with a score of 92, making it one of only three companies among 21 evaluated to achieve the highest grade that year.

HJSC’s continued excellence reflects the company’s deeply rooted safety culture, built on the persistent efforts of both management and frontline teams.

“Our achievement will not lead to complacency,” said HJSC CEO Yoo Sang-cheol. “Safety and health will remain our top priorities as we continue building a safe and happy workplace for all employees and subcontractors.”

Looking ahead, HJSC plans to further strengthen its safety culture by focusing on i) establishing a more efficient HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) management system, ii) proactively identifying and addressing hazards and iii) enhancing its safety cooperation infrastructure with partner companies.
